Ctenanthe Burle-Marxii | Never Never Plant

A real eye-catcher, the Never Never Plant has soft, silvery-green leaves patterned with dark green fishbone-like stripes. The underside is a soft purple, and like other members of the prayer plant family, its leaves gently move up and down with the light — a lovely little bit of daily drama! It’s named after the famous Brazilian landscape designer Roberto Burle Marx, which makes it feel extra fancy.

Origin: Native to the tropical forests of Brazil

Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light. It’ll tolerate lower light, but its striking patterns show best when it’s somewhere with consistent filtered light.

Water: Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy. It enjoys humidity, so pop it in a bathroom or mist it regularly if your home is on the dry side. Like many tropical plants, it prefers filtered or rainwater over hard tap water.
